Stimulation
by Sam M. Phillips

Nothing strange,
Deep joy,
Deep contentment possible.

The mind runs like a watch,
Always wound,
Always working,
It must be made to stop,
Persuaded to relax,
Sit still.

Hidden fountain,
Inner strength,
Flows easily in the stillness,
The secret of the ascetics.

No penance,
No punishment,
Just a denial,
For a time,
To rediscover the depths,
The delights,
Within.

It is automatic,
Subconscious takes control,
Adjusts to the lack of stimuli,
Then the spark,
The happiness,
The contentment,
Comes from the inside,
It is always in you,
If you can just stop,
Stop trying to satisfy it
With conscious worries and pleasures,
And it will come.

Adjust to stillness,
And stillness ceases to bore,
Boredom is in your judgement,
In the judgement of the conscious mind.

Nothing happens inside,
When the outside distracts,
Still the outside
And the inner goes to work.
