Book
by Sam M. Phillips

Pick up book,
Feel weight,
Note dimensions.

Caress the cover,
Smooth,
Fingers slide,
Sense tingles,
Anticipation.

Hold in one hand,
Binding,
Width,
The journey.

Grip with other hand,
Fingers firm,
Together,
Thumb presses,
Then loosens just enough.

Pages ruffle,
Tumble one after the other,
Wave to me,
Greet me,
A soft breeze,
And a high smell,
Paper,
Takes me back to every moment like this.

I grab the book hard in both hands,
Throw it open,
Bury my nose in it,
In the memories.

I exhale,
Satisfaction,
Close the book,
Lie back against pillow,
Open to page one.
