Keep Going
by Sam M. Phillips
Man presses fingers into closed eyes,
Spies faces,
Traces of light pixelate,
Create illusion,
Diffusion of pain,
Strain of reading,
Receding for a moment,
The torment of task,
Ask too much,
Such things are normal,
Approval sought,
Bought with our efforts,
The man comforts himself with the fact
That this act is noble,
The cradle bearing his future seed,
The need to succeed
Won’t let pain impede,
His creed
Is to feed the greed of fate,
The hour late,
Bait on hook,
Look to computer screen,
The makings of a dream,
Stream of letters link
To show the way we think,
Sink down into lofty thought,
Goal sought,
Will come,
Nearly done,
So tired,
Mired down with creation,
Elation felt to be employed,
Deployed to manage
The meaning of life of the man,
He can put up with a lot,
Even though he’s losing the plot,
He’s not about to give in,
Every intention to win,
Grin passes his lips,
Tips of fingers go back to work,
The stories lurk in his head,
Metaphors for the life he’s led,
He feels dead,
But he’s sure his book will be read,
God said to keep going,
So the man keeps the words flowing.
