Do What Needs Be
by Sam M. Phillips
Quite a crop,
Cannot stop,
Lop off a limb,
Swim in subconscious,
Pompous poet pours,
Sores open,
Depend on process,
Test of resolve,
Revolve around release,
Find peace,
New lease of life,
Strife dissolves,
Poetry solves so much for me,
Makes me the man I wish to be,
Be happy for me,
Despite the pain of living,
There is joy in giving
Hope to those
Who cannot cope.
I elope with words,
I’ve served my purpose,
Propose a rest,
Lest I burn out,
I shout,
No!
I will not go quietly,
There is still some fight in me,
I seek to be free,
To express,
To detest,
Nothing less
Than full force.
Coerce brother,
Smother him with slime,
Time will show,
That I know
What I’m doing,
Shooing away demons,
Man’s companions,
They want too much,
Such greed!
They seed thought,
Battles fought in mind,
Your kind is weak,
Seek to strengthen,
Lengthen living,
Striving to improve.
Soothe our wounds,
Mother croons,
Lover swoons,
These rooms are too small,
All of us are meant to fit,
But how can it be?
You and me,
In here,
Crowded with fear.
Hate transformed,
It’s wormed its way in,
That din you hear,
That is it right there,
Look at it,
Don’t turn,
We need to discern the difference.
No diffident slave,
We can solve
Our own problems,
Conundrums cave,
They might crush us,
So don’t rush us,
If you push us,
We’ll fall,
So stall
To gain perspective,
We need inner directive,
No trust,
In what we must learn,
Turn your head to see,
And do what needs be.
