Schizophrenic Battle
by Sam M. Phillips
Raving like a lunatic,
Pedantic power pushes me to act,
Make pact between different selves,
The pack delves down deep,
A secret to keep,
Leap at the chance of wisdom,
Assault the kingdom of my subconscious,
So pompous
But porous,
A chorus of battle cries,
The enemy lies broken,
Token victory,
Memory blocked,
Subconscious stocked for siege,
I cannot succeed,
I have to heed advice,
I’m in a vice,
No nice outcome,
Run into endless obstacles,
Pentacles pulse in my head,
Patient until I’m dead,
They’re read my fate
And now they wait,
They hate me
And as soon as my soul is free
They’ll be first in line to deceive,
To make me perceive them as angels,
I need to watch the angles,
Tangles of snakes,
The sun bakes my skin,
Grin drooping,
Back stooping,
Looping rope,
Fall down the slope,
Elope to another place,
Thoughts race
As I pace a study,
Sturdy bookshelves,
So many selves expressed on pages,
Lives of the sages,
Ages to create,
But hate can take so much,
Such a waste,
In haste I knock a candle,
Try to handle flame
But I cannot tame it,
No more than I can tame all these parts of me fighting,
Lighting my mind,
And my sleeve,
On fire,
Higher the flames grow,
I know I’m insane
But I still feel pain,
My brain screams,
Streams of smoke,
I provoke a panic,
Manic maniac,
I lack common sense,
So dense I write while I’m burning,
Yearning to record the schizophrenic battle
That accompanied my death rattle.
