Accomplice
by Sam M. Phillips
Angel spreads its dragon wings,
Sings sad song,
Prolong pain,
Brain strains to attain peace,
Let this ordeal cease,
Grease applied to grooves,
Soothes friction,
False fiction being told in my head,
Part of me wants me dead,
I’ve led a black and white life up until now,
Grey-scale compromise to make me bow,
How do I go on living,
Giving up my highs and lows?
These glories and blows
Are all my ego knows,
It grows in adverse conditions,
Confronting situations to challenge,
Forcing me to take the plunge,
Lunge forward with sword,
Fight harder with a word,
You heard me,
Don’t martyr me,
I’d rather be a living effigy,
Dynamically changing my stance,
Every chance to defend,
Send my enemies packing
As they are track my every movement,
I seek an improvement,
A government beyond the mind,
Meant to govern in kind,
I find it impossible,
The people are insatiable,
I’m not able to appease them,
To please them,
When will they make up their minds?
The pack finds no common ground,
The sound of their braying
Certainly is annoying,
I’m deploying riot police,
Cease and desist,
You will not be missed,
Pissed off authority puts you a cage,
Work out some of that rage,
End as a sage at peace with your fate,
Too late,
Your life already over,
Just as you gain power,
The tower of achievement
Ends in bereavement,
As all talents are lost,
And we count the cost
Of living
And giving ourselves to a task,
Too much to ask.
Bask in the glories of others,
The stories of lovers,
Expectation lowers,
Each life lived each day,
Price to pay,
In this way
We prey on our neighbours,
Harbour grudges,
Lie smudges tale,
Rail against an injustice,
An accomplice,
Guiding you to fate
Before it’s too late.
