Maya
by Sam M. Phillips
Hot flashes,
Brain crashes,
Reality smashes all around,
Base level not found,
Can’t ground my existence,
I sit on the fence,
No defence beyond laziness,
The haziness I feel,
Linked to the craziness of the deal,
Steal everything from me,
Fair trade,
Spade digging,
Picking my path,
Escaping other’s wrath,
Decision stands stark
Against dark background,
I’ve found some purpose in life,
But it doesn’t help,
Not in the face of these emotions,
Turned up so I scream each moment,
Torment as I’m tied down,
Run around my living corpse,
Copse of trees,
Appease the gods,
Circle sacrifice,
My blood smells nice,
Entice initiate,
Bait the line
With fine lies,
Buys me some time,
I’ve no crime,
These people are just mad,
It’s sad really,
Dealing in death,
My breath is shallow,
Swallow fate,
Hate it to end like this,
Wish I could have done more,
I have a score to settle,
Test my mettle,
A battle of bravery,
I was taken in slavery,
Painted blue,
Sacred hue of paint
To chase away taint,
Blade descending,
I’m ascending,
Sending shivers down spine,
Pine for next life,
Or heaven,
Whatever comes,
Just let me escape
These cruel hands of fate.
