Attraction
by Sam M. Phillips

Six week bender,
By the end you’re
A wreck
Detect cracks,
Stack of issues,
Grab the tissues,
Cry
As you come down from the sky,
Why
Must it be like this?
Bliss turned upside down,
I’m a clown,
Frown as my brain chemicals splutter,
Empty gauge,
Lie down in gutter,
Mutter curse,
I’ve felt worse,
The drugs course
Through my veins,
Or else I completely abstain,
Cannot frame a moderate picture,
My future condemned,
Damned to dependency,
Nothing fancy,
Just ugly addiction,
What’s the attraction?
