Manic Trap
by Sam M. Phillips
Disturbed by dreams,
The message screams
So loud it wakes me,
Shakes me conscious,
Raucous call in the middle of the night,
I have to fight
To keep level.
Dishevelled thought,
Caught in manic trap,
Wrap me up in a sheet,
Complete envelope,
Elope in my mind,
Try to find some kind station.
Frustration as my teeth grind,
I’m blind,
Dark room,
Too soon,
I’m lost,
Bossed about by neurosis.
The psychosis follows shortly after,
Slaughter of my defences,
Senses flare,
Stare into the gloom
And visualise my doom.
The room filled with the dead,
Get out of my head,
I’ve read my fate,
It’s too late,
Dabbled defunct.
Conjunct conjuring,
Luring them here,
Filling me with fear,
I should steer clear
Of the spells.
The pack dwells
Upon my back,
Try to pry me open to attack,
I track their progress,
Growing distress,
I address them directly,
They can detect me.
My will
Has the ability to kill,
They lie still,
No matter,
Ethereal blood splatter,
They scatter,
As I batter them with lightning.
I regret inviting them in,
But I still win,
Din as they depart,
I start to relax
And go back to sleep,
My soul my own to keep.
