Wake Up
by Sam M. Phillips

I wake up,
Take up a role,
A goal for the day,
Pay special attention to the part I play,
Say the right things,
Brings me satisfaction,
Action at my station,
Elation to work,
Lurk here amongst the letters,
Fetters for a time,
No crime,
My mind is my own,
I’ve grown into a leadership of one,
There is no censorship to be done,
I run the ship.

Day trip in my head
To locations in books I’ve read,
Get the lead out,
Shout to push off,
Scoff at the danger,
This is an adventure,
Venture into the deep jungle of the mind,
You never know what you might find,
A kind of catharsis
As you sit in stasis,
The basis of the external
Is found in the internal,
Infernal torture chamber.

Clamber down,
Fumble around,
There is no ground,
Only descent,
Release steam as you vent,
Heaven sent,
Bent on my salvation,
Starvation of my demons,
See them screaming,
Teeming hordes
Fall before the Lord’s words,
Herds of halo spirits
Come to chant his merits.

Prophets record
Peace concord
Between light and dark,
Stark contrast of wills,
Stills the air,
All is fair,
Care given to each part
From start to finish,
So that evil can’t diminish
The glory of the whole,
Each has a role,
Dole out a character for you to act,
Wake up to your part in the pact.
