Reflect
by Sam M. Phillips
Wisen up student,
I’m asking you to be prudent,
Only the erudite succeed,
So take heed.
I lead you down a rabbit hole,
But console yourself,
That everywhere I lead
I’ve been there myself.
You need help along the way,
So pay attention to your guide,
They have a tendency to hide
From plain view,
But they are visible to you,
Just not always with your eyes.
Don’t despise me for my riddles,
Someone fiddles with the knobs,
Robs the transmission of clarity,
A calamity we must overcome,
But it can be done.
I run a few steps ahead,
Leave a trail of bread,
There are messages to be read,
Dead facts and living wisdom,
Seldom glanced,
So use this chance
To take it all in.
Swim in a sea of symbols,
It is your life,
Surrounding you now,
A massive mirror array.
Play on words,
Signposts pointing,
Angels anointing
Your action,
So take satisfaction
That to reflect is the highest calling,
Neglect of this the reason we’re falling.
