Rings
by Sam M. Phillips
So thrilled,
I’ve killed,
Or at least subdued,
One of my demons,
The giant green-gold one
With energy like the sun.
He used to run
Rings around me
Like Saturn,
Tight pattern
Of orbit,
But I absorb it,
My orb lit,
A beacon so bright
He can’t stand it
And is reduced
To sand and grit.
I split his form into pixels,
Rotate the shape
And drape it with my light,
Bright brother,
I smother you
And it is done,
You no longer run
Rings around me,
You have found me
To be your equal,
Both made of the sun,
Thus we are one.
