Red Marks
by Sam M. Phillips

I have things to say,
I can’t make them go away.

I don’t care if you don’t pay
Me any attention,
Or if there is no retention
Of my ideas,
Or recognition of the demons
That drive my fears.

The tears I cry are real to me,
I can’t hold it inside of me.

So spill I must,
A thrill to thrust
These thoughts away,
They only hurt me
If they stay.

Pray for me,
Even if I’m dead,
My thoughts alive
In your head.

Even in death,
I find no peace,
The art of growing
Will never cease.

New lease of life in another dimension,
Push my soul in a new direction,
With these thoughts I find elation.

Though my situation may be small,
My path is to walk with all.

I’m tall,
I do not crawl,
Though I may stall,
It is only temporary,
This world my seminary.

Summary of light,
Rule of might,
Tight grip of God,
Load unburdened,
Now red marks on paper.
