Black Shadow
by Sam M. Phillips
Facing the window,
I know nothing,
Sit and stare,
It’s as if the blinds aren’t even there,
Eyes do not focus,
Locus of thought drifts,
Mind shifts,
Vertigo,
Here I go,
Once again I enter trance,
Once again begin to dance,
My chance to commune,
Hear the tune of the spirit world.
Feel the pulse in my head,
Feel the footsteps of the dead,
Dread falls away,
I pay my respects,
The spirit detects
My presence,
Séance soothes rough barriers,
Brings forth the carriers
Of knowledge and truth,
There is no proof,
Unless you see it, too,
I can’t do the work for you.
Phantom talks,
Stalks my thoughts,
Caught between realms,
I move up
And he delves,
Shelves of my brain space,
Fill every trace,
Lace curtain,
Nothing certain,
Entertain a wide range,
Allow my prejudices to rearrange,
It’s all so strange,
But I can’t reject
Any new sensations I detect.
Black shadow
In the meadow
Beyond my walls,
Crawls across landscape,
Cannot escape
Until its business is done,
Father must find a son,
Most would run,
But I stay,
I sense the vital role I play.
I take note of black spot,
Subjective interpretation of ink dot,
My lot is to communicate,
There is no point in hate,
It’s too late,
I’m too far gone,
No point in feeling forlorn,
Ignore the scorn,
The blind can’t see
What’s being shown to me.
A total lack of fear of death,
A knowledge that every breath
I take is sacred,
I can ignore the hatred
And the fear,
The creator is always near.
