Boredom
by Sam M. Phillips
These sacred lines
Are the marks of a bored mind,
I’m not the kind to sit still,
I need some type of thrill,
Kill some time
With sublime thought,
Open a book I’ve bought
And soar high,
Wonder what it’s like to die.
I try and colour my head
With the experiences of the dead,
The lives they’ve led
Fill in the gaps,
This one life saps
Away my strength,
So I go to any length
To live one thousandfold
Through the tales I’m told.
Bold mental picture,
Make my future
Horizons vast,
Widely cast my net,
And yet
It’s never enough,
Though I stuff
Myself with stimuli,
It would be a lie
To say I satisfy
This endless thirst,
Boredom is the worst.
