Something Nice
by Sam M. Phillips
I actually feel good for a change,
So I thought I should arrange
A few words to celebrate
The fact I don’t feel hate,
It’s great to see the positive,
To actually give
Myself a shot at happiness
Rather than wallowing in distress,
I’m swallowing this mess,
Knowing it’s just a test
And I need to put my best
Foot forward,
Turn toward
Some brighter goal,
I take up some happy role,
My soul sings
With the joy life brings,
Even though pain stings
There are plenty of things
To look forward to,
I’m pushing through
To a better day,
I know I won’t stay this way,
But I thought I better say
Something nice while it lasts.
