Being Played
by Sam M. Phillips
When you’re smart enough to see through certain things,
It certainly brings
A lot of heartache,
Sometimes more than I can take,
The world is fake
And full of illusion,
No wonder we live in confusion
And I feel lost,
Perhaps this is the cost
Of seeing too much
And having such
A refined sense of discernment.
Most of the time this achievement
Makes me hell bent
On self-destruction,
As an obvious manipulation
Is ignored
And people get bored
If I try to explain,
Tell me I’m a pain,
I should try to view life as a game,
But if it’s all the same
I’d prefer to see
When someone’s playing me.
