Burning Heart
by Sam M. Phillips
My anger has left me,
I’m able to see
A little more clearly,
I dearly
Hope this state stays,
My hate pays
Me back a thousandfold,
I’ve been told
I act like an animal
My brain becomes small,
My pain becomes all,
It’s hard to stand tall
Between the attacks,
My guilt stacks
On top of me,
I cannot be
Always stuck under this pile,
I’m struck by your smile,
So sincere,
Don’t you fear
My rage like the others?
Your love smothers
My burning heart
And I start
To finally calm down.
