Mars
by Sam M. Phillips
Bright red dot is mars,
I seek a life amongst the stars,
I’m not from Earth,
This dense birth
Is like drowning in sludge,
I cannot budge
The heavy weight of this body,
This machine is bloody.
Oil slick,
I stick
To the surface
Yet cannot find purchase
To lift myself off,
I hear you scoff
From far away,
Feel free to stay
But I’m leaving,
I’m not grieving
For my real home
Or feeling alone
For even one more day.
