Assured
by Sam M. Phillips
Who are you to doubt me?
Can’t you see
That I am trying?
Why are you denying
The opportunities for progress
I need to serve the universe best?
I know this is a test,
But I am impatient,
All my latent talent
Is going to waste,
I seek to taste
Victory,
The story
Of my life is assured,
And yet I’m moored
In the present,
I resent
Having to wait,
I take the bait
And am lured along,
I’ve been assured I’m strong
Enough to handle
This slow burning candle,
I am an able agent,
I have been sent here
To confront fear,
And pull others near
The flame of creation.
