Escape Eternity
by Sam M. Phillips
I’m getting better all the time,
I’m able to climb
To new heights,
Lift new weights,
Take my place amongst the greats.
.
Nothing sates my appetite
To move towards the light
And improve as much as I am able,
Life is such a fable
And I its hero,
Counting up from zero.
.
I consider myself important,
It is no detriment
To you and your story,
In fact, it’s a parallel allegory
That we tell each other by living,
Giving us both clues
By expressing our views.
.
News I now tell you
Is old tomorrow,
You’re told to borrow
Life experiences
For your references,
Fences we balance upon,
Capes and masks we don.
.
Life is long and short,
Don’t be caught
Taking it too seriously,
Or too lightly,
There’s no need to fight me.
.
We work together,
Tie a tether
Between lives,
Each strives
To understand as it arrives
At a turning point,
Burning oil to anoint.
.
Joint venture,
Tread so sure,
Lost in shadow,
Stare through window
And see the true form
Of the soul storm.
Conform only for now,
Bow to reality,
One day we’ll escape eternity.
