Two Evils

by Sam M. Phillips

.

When two evils go to war,

One is not lesser

And the other more,

They both seek to gore

The guts out of humanity,

Their power struggle a calamity,

Regardless of who wins,

Nothing brings peace

Just because hostilities cease,

They are only resting,

Testing each other’s resolve,

They solve their differences

By erecting defences,

Fences to divide,

Pick a side

And be punished by both hands,

Everything lands

The common man

In hot water,

Slaughter within border

To maintain order,

Slaughter without

To keep the enemy out.

.

Doubt their ideology,

They’ll make no apology

For the way they use you,

They will abuse you

If you cross them,

Everything depends

On perspectives,

Their detectives

Will find you,

Bind you in restraints,

Taints their cause

But they do not pause

To question what is right,

Might makes right,

And if they can hold you tight

And crush you flat

They know that

They were justified,

Their leaders had not lied,

All those that defied

The system must fall,

Be made to crawl.

.

All for one

And one for all,

So stand tall

If you kill

For your nation,

Reject the notion

That others are human,

Create the machine

And watch it consume them.
