Hounding
by Sam M. Phillips
Perhaps I’m already half insane
From dealing with the pain
Caused by the strain
Of our relationship.
.
Perhaps I need space,
Perhaps you can’t trace
The line of the race
Which I’m in,
Which I’m trying to win.
.
Perhaps you don’t know everything,
I need a spring
In my step,
And yet you hover,
Cover me with your weight,
Wait for me to fail
So you can rail
Against all I stand for.
.
You need the score
To be in your favour,
Savour being right
Regardless of what damage you might
Cause with your hounding,
Your arrogance astounding.
.
I’m drowning underwater,
Hoping that later
You’ll let me breathe,
Perhaps I deceive
Myself to believe
You can lay aside
The faults you try to hide.
.
Vaults of information you can’t confide
Make you irrational,
No situational awareness,
We’re all careless,
Causing distress,
When our best
Efforts are waiting to be expressed.
