Mixed Methods
by Sam M. Phillips
It cannot be improved,
Nothing can be removed,
It is my way
And I will not stray
And turn away
From a method so dear,
I do not fear
Mistakes.
.
It takes
A bigger man
To know what he can
And cannot do,
So I push through,
Leaving it behind
And find
A new way forward
Toward a new goal
Where my soul
Might express itself better.
.
I cannot fetter
Myself to one set of rhymes,
My pen climbs
To the next stage,
Filling the page
With momentary rage,
I am a mere mage,
Sage sorely tested,
Often bested
By my own hope,
I cannot cope
With my own judgement.
.
So I escape this torment
By continuing,
My inspiration diminishing,
Always finishing
And never renewing,
I’m not stewing
Over what to do,
I’m sure you
Will judge me enough
For the both of us.
