Becoming An Author
by Sam M. Phillips
I’m coming apart at the seams,
All of my dreams
Are meeting with success,
And yet I feel less
Than able
To handle
The pressure.
.
Sure,
I’m happy to be working,
But there’s issues lurking,
Waiting to be exposed,
My fear grows
That I’ll have to keep
Up this pace,
That I’m in too deep
And the race
Will kill me,
Will the thrill be
Worth the mental exhaustion?
.
I like my new position
As an author,
But it’s still early days,
And it’s affecting me in ways
I never thought possible,
I don’t feel responsible
For what I’ll become,
My conscience is done,
Put on a thick skin and run.
.
My mind so far ahead,
See into the future
Where I am dead,
Trace the contour
Of my dread,
My head so full of hope,
But I cannot cope
Even with this
Small level of success,
What a frightful test
Real recognition will be.
