Headless Halo

by Sam M. Phillips

I become so antagonistic,

Sick and sadistic,

I turn on you,

See me stew,

My hatred grew

Over such a long time,

I couldn’t forgive your crime,

Although I forgot its nature

I’m sure it was horrible,

And so I’m unable

To let it go,

Sense the gross glow

Of headless halo,

I know I’m mad,

Glad of the inspiration,

Perplexing perspiration,

A whole nation

Bent to a task,

Too much to ask

For them to slow down,

Or to leave the town

And get back to nature,

All our souls immature,

Lure of all that is modern,

Watch the karma burn,

Every day we turn

Into something we don’t want to be,

A monster in a cage,

Unable to see

Beyond its own rage.
