Overburdened

by Sam M. Phillips

I’ve had it!

I’m not going to sit

And be your slave,

Be the one to save

All your wreckage,

Thoughts in a cage,

Rage of expression,

Another sick session

Where I learn no lesson,

Representation of nothing,

I’m only bluffing,

Stuffing my shirt

With handfuls of dirt,

I make everything hurt,

And so I don’t expect

For you to detect

Any trace of respect,

I’m a dead hand,

Unable to land

With any finesse,

I do my best,

But I fear I’m less

Than equal to the task,

Of which you ask

Far too much of me,

Can’t you see

I’m already overburdened?
