You Cannot Run
by Sam M. Phillips
You push the needle in —
What are you trying to win?
All this feeble sin
For which we cannot atone,
We’re all alone
With our conscience in the end,
You either get by or you send
Yourself mad with what you’ve done,
I’ve found the need to run
Away from my problems before —
Everything was too raw —
But I found that the law
Of the universe
Will always send you in reverse
Back to the start
Until you learn your part
In the great play of personalities,
Calamities, and chaos.
