We Know Nothing
by Sam M. Phillips
Hell to pay
As we move away
From what we know to be real,
Why do we feel
The need to rush
Towards such
Multitudes of illusion?
It all intrudes and finds fusion
With our thought,
And then we’re caught,
Not knowing what to think
Or how to link
Real facts to each other—
.
Everyone acts to cover
Their own ignorance,
Like it makes any difference
If they look stupid or not,
I’ve slid down and got
Just as much
As when I touch
The sky,
Why deny
We know nothing?
Why grow up bluffing?
.
We’re stuffing our heads
With all the dregs
Of knowledge,
Driving a wedge
Between fact and fiction,
As if this action
Makes us wise,
But it’s all lies,
And we live in the five sense
World that represents
Only a tiny sliver
Of what there is to discover.
