Alpha Wolf

by Sam M. Phillips

Of course that is a sick name,

How am I to blame

For what is considered lame

Or tame,

And what is cool in this game?

.

I won’t bow down to trends

It sends me mad

Seeing how low

People will go

For others to know their name.

.

I am my own creation,

I have no position

In your system,

I condemn your scene,

It isn’t my dream.

.

Alpha wolf scream,

Howl at moon,

Wear out too soon,

Doom inherent in creation,

Cyclical situation.

.

Scene kings,

Something brings

Them down

After the quick ride

Up they slide.

.

Hide in the pack,

The odds stack

Against you,

Can you get through

The hard years.

.

All our fears

Coalesce in this moment,

The torment of fame,

This shallow game,

Always the same.

.

I’d prefer to steer

Clear of the obstacles,

Hollow head receptacles

Hold our brain fluids,

Liquids of creation.

.

Bands bring elation,

Hold their station

For a time,

Then climb

Back into the gutter.
