Value in Myself

by Sam M. Phillips

Perhaps I am jealous,

I am certainly lonely,

I feel slovenly

And inconspicuous.

.

Perhaps I envy

Those who have made it,

Those who can fit

In easily.

.

Perhaps I am perfect

As I am,

I cannot slam

Myself for having a defect.

.

Perhaps I am delusional,

A lost child,

Fuzzy brained and wild,

Useless and unusual.

.

Perhaps I am needed,

All my flaws

Are part of the laws

Guiding those who have succeeded.

.

Perhaps I’ll never make it,

Will this matter?

Do I scatter

My energies trying to fake it?

.

Perhaps my life is as good

As all others,

Desire smothers

All which I should

Value in myself.
