Internal Strife
by Sam M. Phillips
I’m my only true friend,
I send myself mad,
I make myself feel sad,
It’s too bad
I don’t enjoy you as much,
It is such
A lonely life,
Internal strife,
Rife with demons,
They bite,
They fight
Me on every point,
I do not anoint
Them king,
They seem to bring
Their own power,
See them glower
As I cower
In the corner,
Former human being,
No longer seeing
A reason to go outside,
I hide inside,
Trying to confide
In myself again,
I know the pain
I go through,
There’s nothing you can do,
The demons are stuck like glue,
They chew through my membrane,
They cause the internal strain,
There they go again,
Repeating their game,
It’s always same,
Being so negative,
I don’t know why I give
Them so much space,
I try to race
Away from them,
But I seem to depend
On them now,
I don’t know how
It got to be like this,
I miss the old days,
Before my wicked ways
Became manifest,
Things were best
When I went outside.
