Indivisible Duality

by Sam M. Phillips

If you’re going to walk,

Now is the time,

Before it gets any hotter,

Later we will boil,

Toil in the sun,

Fun exercise

To exorcise

The demons inside,

They never slide

Completely from view.

.

Hue of dawn,

Cue of storm,

Form opinions in pain,

Taint my visions as I wait,

Hate and love

Beneath and above,

Earth trod hot,

God has got

His best face on,

Am I wrong

To chase

All these base

Pleasures and desires?

.

There are fires

In me which never go out,

I doubt

I could live

If they did,

I have hid

For too long,

There is nothing wrong

With me,

Well, maybe there is,

But I’m too judgemental,

Sentimental and sick.

.

I pick the indulgence,

And the decadence

Overwhelms me,

Can’t sit still,

Need to fill

Every waking moment,

Taking the torment,

Eat it all up,

Fill my cup

With the slime

Of endless time,

I cannot climb

Out of the hole I’ve dug,

Shrug, who cares?

Man stares

At others

And smothers

His individuality.
