Tight Hands

by Sam M. Phillips

My heart is destroyed,

I’m so annoyed

That I can’t discover

What is wrong with me,

Or that I can’t uncover

A reason to be

Happy and content,

I’ve been sent

Mad by obsession,

What is the lesson

I’m meant

To learn?

.

I burn

With anxiety,

Sobriety is a double

Edged blade,

I’m in trouble

And I cannot save

Myself any grief

By finding what’s beneath

All the worries.

.

Carrion carries

Me away,

A new day

Never comes,

Repetition runs

Me into the ground,

Nothing I’ve found

Gives me any relief,

What belief

Will help me now?

.

I bow

Before the might

Of the tight

Hands that bind

My heart and mind.
