An Entity

by Sam M. Phillips

I feel like I’m one

Step away from the loony bin,

I’m almost done

But I try not to give in,

Why must the grin

Of this baleful full moon

Come again too soon?

Run the game of my doom,

Feel the presence loom

Over my bed,

Infecting my head.

_

The life I’ve led

Has led me here,

I’m still ruled by fear,

I feel it near,

Reaching out a hand

As I land

In the thick slime

Of corporeal time,

Use ethereal rhyme

To climb out,

But I doubt

It will be enough,

The going rough,

Tough journey ahead.

_

The dead gather

To support and contort,

I’d rather

Go on alone,

But I can’t atone

For mistakes,

It takes

Everything out of me,

Bring me to the sea

And let me drown,

I go down

Into the deep

As I try to keep

My identity intact.

_

I’m an entity in fact,

I might act like a lost sheep,

And I may reap

A bitter harvest,

But I invest

A lot in this life of mine,

I walk a fine line

Between insanity and ability

With deft agility,

There is unity

Between my two halves,

Neither saves

Me more than the other,

Act as brother

As they cover

All my many pieces

Until my journey ceases.
