Progress

by Sam M. Phillips

The poetry stacks up,

The typing gets backed up,

Is my cup

Half full or half empty?

Does laziness always tempt me?

Why can’t I see

The worth of my production?

Why do I allow procrastination?

.

Frustration fumes,

Castigation consumes,

The work never resumes

As deadline looms.

.

Rooms I pace,

Try not to face

My lack of action,

Stuck in traction,

With too much time

Constructing rhyme

From my experience.

.

What difference

Does it make

How long I take

To see progress?

.

Need to clear this mess

Up and get to work,

There’re stories that lurk

Inside of me,

Trying to hide from me,

But I can see

The possibility

Of their creation,

If I have the ability

To stop the procrastination.
